JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Under general direction, provides leadership and guidance for flight instructors; serves as a mentor to flight instructors and students; assists to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) in the training of students and the supervision of flight instructors; maintains continuous education in graduate studies..
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:
- Supervises flight training activities and flight instructors; monitors and evaluates flight instructor performance; advises the lead flight instructors.
- Performs stage checks, end-of-course tests, and flight instructor proficiency checks; ensures compliance with FARs.
- Assists in conducting initial and annual recurrent standardization of flight instructors; assists in the development and maintenance of standardized teaching techniques and procedures.
- Participates in recruitment, interviews, and recommendations of prospective flight instructors; interviews prospective students and parents; monitors progress of students and student training records.
- Schedules and leads meetings with flight instructor staff; performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements :
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledge and instructor certification appropriate to the position sought
- Knowledge of various flight instruction instrumentation and equipment
- Interpersonal/human relations skills
- Supervisory skills
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to instruct/teach/tutor
- Ability to operate personal computer and applications
- Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically
- Ability to reason logically and methodically
- Ability to perform under stressful circumstances
- Ability to push, pull, bend, lift, and carry objects including the repositioning of aircraft using tow bar or tug
- Attentiveness to detail
- Ability to obtain admission in a graduate-level program and maintain continuous enrollment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience equivalent to:
Bachelors degree, and currently enrolled or ability to be enrolled in a graduate-level program; supplemented with two (2) years related experience and eligibility for designation as assistant chief instructor under FAR Part 141.36.
