Pilots or copilots a wide variety of aircraft ranging from light single- and twin-engine airplanes to heavy, multi-engine airplanes. Performs pre-flight planning duties, such as securing current and forecast weather information, planning the flight, and obtaining proper clearances to begin flight.
Performs tasks related to the administrative management of an organization. This includes activities such as interpreting administrative policies, developing and implementing organizational policies, defining administrative requirements, and/or providing advice to management on related issues.
Assists in ensuring that contractor performance of technical tasks is in accordance with established procedures and that tests and/or products conform to established specifications and requirements. Provides technical guidance to contractor personnel on technical and documentation requirements, including problem reports and troubleshooting plans.
Minimum Requirements :
Grade 09: FLIGHT EXPERIENCE: Qualifying experience for the GS-9 level includes (1) at least 1200 hours of total flight time; (2) at least 250 hours of pilot-in-command flight time; (3) AND at least 100 hours of IFR and/or night flying. For positions that involve flying, at least 100 flight hours must have been logged in the last 12 months.
INTERNAL CANDIDATES: Up to one-fourth of the total flight hours may be waived for candidates who have demonstrated the knowledge and skills needed to perform the work, provided: (1) they hold the certificates and ratings required; (2) they have acquired the pilot-in-command hours and flight hours in other categories essential to performance of the work; (3) they meet the requirements in terms of level and quality of experience, AND; (4) their flying history indicates they are qualified for the position. For inservice placement actions, up to 50 hours of the flying time required in the last 12 months may be waived if the candidate's background reflects the ability to perform the duties of the position safely.
CERTIFICATES AND RATINGS: Candidates must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or a FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. Pilot certificates must include all ratings appropriate to the work of the position.
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates for pilot positions must possess a current first- or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.
