Operates complex, single engine, and multi-engine fixed wing aircraft for the company and provides recurrent flight training to other department pilots on flight status.
Ability to conduct safe and efficient flight operations within aircraft limitations
Flight planning, preflight & obtaining weather
Weight and balance computations
Oversee aircraft fueling, loading, unloading and personally cleaning the aircraft
Ability to pre-plan and conduct operations within aircraft limits
Ability to work extended shifts and travel to rural locations while remaining within state policy duty time limits
Ability to maintain electronic and paper pilot training records
Will conduct recurrent pilot training and upgrade training to department pilots, to include but not limited to: wheel ski, beach, floats, instruments
Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) or Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII)
Superior knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations
Ability to make safe and rational go/no-go flight decisions and to determine weather
Demonstrated experience with flying complex aircraft in Alaska
Knowledge of flying techniques required for day and night, instrument flying conditions

A Commercial Pilot License and Aircraft Multi-Engine Land or Sea rating. A total of 1,500 hours flying aircraft which includes 500 hours as Pilot-In-Command (PIC) fixed wing aircraft and 500 hours as PIC of a fixed wing multi-engine aircraft. Of this required flight time, 250 hours as PIC must be Alaska time.*

As part of the examination process, the employing department will require successful completion of a flight check and approval from a certified flight instructor in the make and model of craft to be flown.
A current Class I or Class II Medical Certificate will be required as a condition of employment.
Instrument ratings and instrument time may be designated in position descriptions as required for specific positions.
